Children of the Mills Series 2023/24
In the cotton and silk mills of America around 1900/1910, these children, mostly young girls, began working as "assistants" to an older sibling mainly to avoid the scrutiny of inspectors. All of these children risked physical danger from machinery, worked long hours, and lacked a proper education, Most of them worked to help support their families and it was not unusual to see several siblings in the same mill for years at a time.
