MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST
Coal Mine Series 2018
In this series, I have focused on the plight of the children of the coal mines
in and around the Pennsylvania Mountains and Coal Fields where my grandfather worked.
These images were taken before the Child Labor Laws and upon research I discovered children as young as eight years old worked in the mines, especially the “breaker houses”, where t hey sat as long as 10 hours a day breaking the coal by hand. I hope in some way I have given these forgotten boys their voice.
These images are created by experimenting with mixed media, combining
my painting and digital skills with glass, metal, cold wax, oil and film. Please double-Click on the first image and scroll left for the back story and
other information.
